Is it necessary to take permission to cut a tree in my compound?
Ans:
Yes, To Control the indiscriminate felling of trees, the Government of Karnataka has enacted “The Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act, 1976”. This act has come in to force on 17th day of July, 1976. Under this act, no person shall fell any tree or cause any tree to be felled in any land, whether in his ownership or occupancy or otherwise except with the previous permission of the Tree Officer.

How can I get permission to cut a tree in my compound?
Ans:
Any person desiring to fell a tree shall apply in writing in form No. 1 to the concerned Deputy Conservator of Forests/Tree Officer, Bangalore Urban Division, Aranya Bhavan, 18th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore for permission in that behalf. The application shall be accompanied by a site plan or survey sketch specifying clearly the site of Survey number, the number, kind and girth of tree sought to be cut and the reasons therefore along with the consent of the owner or occupant.

How can a tree infront of my compound be removed?
Ans:
As regarding to the tree on footpath/pavement the application shall be addressed to the Horticultural Officer of the jurisdiction, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike who in turn forward the application to the Tree Officer for permission to fell the tree.

Trees which doesn’t require felling permission?
Ans:
The following species are exempted from the purview of the Tree Preservation Act. The owner of the tree may fell the following trees without the permission from the Tree Officer.

How can I get guidance to plant trees in my land?
Ans:
The nearest Range Forest Officer or Dy. Conservator of Forests or the Silviculturists may be contacted for the technical knowhow.

Here can I procure seedlings to be planted from the Forest Department?
Ans:
The list of Nurseries may be perused. The nearest nursery may be visited to get the required seedlings. The seedlings, which are raised for distribution are free of cost.
  The others may be priced depends upon the size and availability (see the list of nurseries)
   
  Timber Allotment:

What is the procedure to buy timber/firewood from the forest department?
Ans:
There are two ways one is through the regular auction sales conducted in the forest depots. See the Tenders & Auctions for dates.
  The other way is by allotment at departmental fixed rates.

Timber allotment for House construction:
Ans:
An application along with the following documents may be submitted to the concerned Dy. Conservator of Forests for allotment
 
(i) Sanctioned House Plan
(ii) Wood estimate from the engineer
(iii) An affidavit saying that the application is for the first time for the allotment of Timber.
  The Dy. Conservator of Forests will recommend to the Chief Conservator of Forests (Protection & Management), Bangalore for allotment. Depending upon the availability of timber, Chief Conservator of Forests (Protection & Management) will allot the nearest Timber Depot. Only ‘C’ class timber will be allotted. Teak allotment is limited to 3 M3 and other hard wood upto 5 M3

How can I keep an animal Trophy?
Ans:
Keeping any animal article or trophy without valid license is an offence under WPA. No person other than a person having a certificate of ownership, shall, after the commencement of the Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Act 2002 acquire, receive, keep in his control custody or possession any captive animal; animal article, trophy or uncured trophy specified in Schedule I or Part II of Schedule II, except by way of inheritance.
  Every person inheriting any captive animal, animal article, trophy or uncured trophy under sub-section shall, within ninety days of such inheritance make declaration to the Chief Wild Warden or the authorised officer and the provisions of sections 41 and 42 shall apply as if the declaration had been made under sub-section.

Can I rear a antelope or Deer?
Ans:
You cannot rear an antelope or a Deer, since Deer is a wild animal specified in schedule III of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 and is a Government property. No wild animal can be reared without prior permission / sanction of the Chief Wild Warden of the State.

Can I adopt a Zoo animal if so How?
  Yes you can adopt any animal in a Zoo in Karnataka. Please contact the Member Secretary, Zoo /authority of Karnataka, Mysore Zoo, Mysore (Phone: 0821-432881) or the /Executive /director, of the concerned Zoo, for details.

How do I inform the Department in case of illegal fellings of trees/injured animal/wildlife disturbance/any other illegal activities in the Forest?
Ans:
The concerned Range Forest Officer or Dy. Conservator of Forests or the Forest Mobile Squad of the division or the State Vigilance Officer, Additional Chief Conservator of Forests, Bangalore or Chief Wildlife Warden and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife matters), Bangalore directly (see the contacts for telephones and e-mail addresses)

How can I get permission to take up field Research studies related to Forests and Wildlife?
Ans:
Written Permission has to be obtained from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Bangalore regarding Wildlife matters in the Sanctuaries and National Parks, Chief Wildlife Warden and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests permission is required.
